BioInstead of a concrete world with concrete characters, thought up and pre-conditioned, made consistent- looking at writing for what it is- words. The words do not describe a world that can be described other than words, and the very words that are chosen. The world would not be the world it is without the words that describe it. Since the world does not have to be imagined real and functioning, the following may occur: Characters can be incomplete caricatures. There may be inconsistencies. Metaphors can be overextended. Things may occur that are “impossible.” Metaphoric language is expected to be taken literally. The passive voice is used in an active, empowering way.
